Smoke Out, Inc. Hosts Family-Friendly Fire Safety Event Following Recent Boston Fires

BOSTON – In response to a series of fires caused by malfunctioning smoke detectors, Smoke Out, Inc. is hosting a family-friendly Smoke Out Day on Tuesday, May 15, from 6 to 9 p.m. at Oak Tree Elementary School.

The event will provide free smoke detectors to the first 50 families (one per household) and feature expert-led presentations every half-hour on fire safety, planning an escape route, and protecting your home. A surprise celebrity guest will speak at 8:30 p.m., and light refreshments will be available throughout the evening.

“Smoke detectors save lives—period,” said Smoke Out, Inc. President Lee Williams. “We live in this community too, and it breaks my heart that neighbors have lost loved ones, homes, and precious possessions unnecessarily. That’s why we’re holding this event—to help prevent future tragedies.”

To make learning about fire safety engaging for families, the event will feature Sparky the Fire Dog, Smokey the Bear, and a fire truck from the local fire department.

“In light of recent events, this event is too important to miss,” said Fire Chief Rick Ramirez, who will attend with his family.

A silent auction will be held to raise funds for families affected by fires in the past six months.
